Primary Classroom (Ages 3–6 Years)

Children in the Primary Classroom are in a critical stage of self-construction, marked by a heightened sense of curiosity, independence, and a desire for purposeful activity. At this age, they learn best through hands-on experiences and are naturally drawn to exploring new ideas, creating, and problem-solving through meaningful work.

As with our younger age groups, a consistent classroom routine and a carefully prepared environment are central to the Primary program. Children engage in uninterrupted work cycles that promote focus, self-discipline, and a love of learning. The classroom is structured to support freedom within limits, allowing children to choose activities that match their developmental needs and interests while being gently guided by the Montessori teacher.

Through the use of beautiful, purposeful materials and lessons tailored to their individual progress, children grow in independence, confidence, and academic readiness.

Montessori Curriculum Areas

The Montessori philosophy emphasizes four core curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, and Language. These foundational areas, introduced in the Wobbler and Toddler classrooms, continue into the Primary program with more advanced materials, deeper exploration, and refined skills. Additionally, children are introduced to a wide array of cultural subjects that support their cognitive, social, and emotional development.

Key areas of focus in the Primary classroom include:

Practical Life:
Personal care, care of the environment (including plants and animals), food preparation, grace and courtesy, and refinement of both fine and gross motor skills.

Sensorial:
Exploration and classification through the five senses, geometric shape recognition, and early preparation for understanding the decimal system.

Mathematics:
Introduction to concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as patterns, numeration, money, fractions, and concrete quantity work.

Language Development:
Phonemic awareness, writing, pre-reading and reading skills, vocabulary enrichment, word building, grammar, and letter recognition through a multisensory approach.

Cultural & Cognitive Subjects:
Biology, zoology, botany, history, geography, physical science, art, music, and the study of different cultures—all designed to spark curiosity and broaden the child’s worldview.

Outdoor Exploration

Children in the Primary program enjoy 90 minutes of outdoor time daily. Our spacious primary playground is thoughtfully designed to support physical development and imaginative play. It includes a variety of stimulating outdoor elements such as swings, bikes, climbing structures, gardens, and open green space—providing endless opportunities for movement, exploration, and social engagement.
